If  the engine run with leaky air starting v/v.
hot gases with unburnt  fuel &cylinder lubricating 
oil may blow through the valve to the adjacent manifold. 
If this moment air applied to the system high pressure air contact with inadescent  carbon cause explosion.
b) leaky starting air valve cause the combustion 
pressure acting on the air pipe leading to the explosion
c) Sudden opening of starting air line from air bottle may provide the heat source &if the pipe is already deposited with oil this condation  leads to an explosion may cause occur

STEP TO MINIMIZE AIR LINE EXPLOSION:

*Suction air should be oil& moisture  free

*Drain air compressor regularly 

*Drain the air line& periodically in spect  the condation

*Regularly drain air bottle &keep oil free

*Open high pressure start air stop valve slowly 

*Proper maintenance of starting air valve 

*Relief valve busting disc must be fitted recived excess pressure.
